HIDE AND SEEK

WITH A NEW OUTPOST, WATCH BRAND SHINOLA PROVES THAT THEY’RE DOING MUCH MORE THAN KEEPING TIME.

- BY KRISTIN DETTERLINE

With a new outpost, watch brand Shinola proves that it’s doing much more than keeping time.

Yes, you know Shinola for its watches. You may even know about those downright handsome bicycles. But take note—preferably in one of their monogrammed journals—that this Detroitbased company, founded in 2011, is just getting started. Shinola’s new King of Prussia Mall store showcases the men’s and women’s lifestyle brand at its best, from a custom watch bar to the new home audio collection. So why Philly for their 18th outpost? “Detroit is very similar to Philly, filled with tenacious, visionary people and an ever-changing food and retail scene,” says Shinola President Jacques Panis. Here, three leather-clad essentials to score for spring. King of Prussia Mall, 610-290-4761; shinola.com

THE BAG

With classic silhouettes, minimal hardware, few fancy details, and no showy logos save for the embossed brand name, Shinola’s leather goods for men are about as understated as it gets. The large carryall, available in black and brown but looking best in a rich shade of bourbon, is a tote you’ll carry for a lifetime.

THE WATCH

You could go about building your dream timepiece at the custom watch bar. But selecting one of the brand’s signature designs is equally satisfying. Shinola proves that they know their way around a watch with the new Runwell sport chronograph, a refined and rugged design with gold accents and a black leather strap.

THE TURNTABLES

A respectable vinyl collection calls for home audio accessories that look just as good as they function: Enter Shinola’s new displayworthy turntables in varying shades of black, silver, and neutral. It’s a move that Panis says illustrates the “elasticity of the brand.” Headphones and speakers will roll out next.
