NO REST FOR THE WICKED

BROADWAY BABY IDINA MENZEL LETS GO ON HER LATEST WORLD TOUR.

- BY SARAH SOWDEN

Broadway baby Idina Menzel lets go on her latest world tour.

Before Idina Menzel ever cast a melodic spell on kids around the world with her soaring, infinitely singable ballad/ anthem “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen, she was hypnotizing audiences with turns in Broadway blockbusters like Rent and Wicked (in the star-making, Tony-winning role of Elphaba). In between, Menzel has released five studio albums over the course of her 20-year career. The latest, idina, is out just in time for her world tour. “I think Menzel did a really good job not bundling herself into one music genre [on this album] because you can hear pop influences but she still gives that classic sound she is known for,” says DJ Rebekah Maroun, better known as Bex from Today’s 96.5 radio station. “Her voice has so much power and depth behind it—and you’re going to see a lot of cool outfits on this tour, too.” Menzel’s recent set lists have been eclectic mashups of her own original music, the biggest Broadway hits, and even cover songs of Aretha Franklin and the Beatles. Spoiler alert: You will get to sing “Let It Go” at the top of your lungs with thousands of other Frozen fans. July 16, 8 PM, BB&T Pavilion, 1 Harbour Blvd., Camden, NJ, 856-3651300; livenation.com
