Yankees 8, Orioles 5: Alex Rodriguez hit his 300th home run with New York, Russell Martin and Steve Pearce also homered, and the visiting Yankees regained sole possession of first place in the East by defeating Baltimore. The Yankees built a 7-0 lead in the fifth against rookie Wei-Yin Chen (12-9) and held on for their third win in nine games. New York had lost eight of 11 to the Orioles, including the opener of this four-game series. Adam Jones, Robert Andino and Manny Machado homered for the Orioles.

Rays 3, Rangers 1: Ben Zobrist’s home run in the 11th inning lifted host Tampa Bay past Texas. Zobrist’s 16th homer came off Mark Lowe (0-1) after a leadoff walk to B.J. Upton. Wade Davis (3-0) got the win after striking out five of the six hitters he faced in the 10th and 11th.

Royals 7, White Sox 5: Lorenzo Cain hit two home runs, including a tiebreakin­g, two-run shot in the ninth, as visiting Kansas City beat Chicago.

Blue Jays 7, Red Sox 5: Edwin Encarnacio­n hit one of Toronto’s three homers and Henderson Alvarez broke his six-game winless streak in visiting Toronto’s victory. The start of the game was delayed by rain for 1 hour, 18 minutes.

Indians 7, Twins 6: Cleveland’s Russ Canzler hit his first major league homer and reliever David Huff won his first game this season as the visiting Indians edged Minnesota.
