Dukes land 6-8 recruit

Duquesne coach Jim Ferry added a 6-foot-8 power forward to his team, landing Isaiah Watkins of Toronto.

Watkins, who is currently enrolled at St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, N.J., will join the team the fall of 2013 and is considered a consensus 3-star player by multiple recruiting sites.

Watkins, reached at his home Friday, said he picked Duquesne over multiple offers because he liked the concept of how the Dukes will play under Ferry, and felt he could trust the coaching staff.

“I know they’re in the rebuilding stage, but I like the team concept and the way they use their forwards,” said Watkins. “I really love the versatility of all the forwards. They can bring up the ball, shoot from the 3 and take you off the dribble. Those are all things I like to do.”

Watkins said he visited Duquesne earlier this month and met with the team, including point guard Marvin Binney, who also is from Toronto.
