WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

- — By Mike White

The University of Wisconsin football team has one of the top defenses in the country, and one of the top players on that defense is West Allegheny High School graduate Mike

Caputo.

Caputo is a 6-foot-1, 206-pound redshirt sophomore safety for the Badgers, who have a 5-2 record. He is second on the team in tackles with 34 (20 solo and 14 assists) and has 2½ tackles for loss. He had seven tackles in a 56-32 victory Saturday against Illinois. Wisconsin is tied for No. 6 in Division I-A in yards allowed per game at 285.

Caputo, who ran for more than 2,000 yards as a junior, was a standout running back-defensive back at West Allegheny. He missed all but one game of his senior year because of an ankle injury.

The Ohio State football team is 7-0, and two WPIAL players are seeing considerable action for the Buckeyes. Jeannette graduate Jordan Hall, a senior halfback, is second in rushing with 445 yards on 70 carries. Corey “Pitt” Brown, a senior defensive back from Gateway, is tied for sixth on the team in tackles with 27. There are two Corey Browns on Ohio State’s roster. The Brown from Gateway is called “Pitt” Brown.

Another Gateway graduate, Dayonne Nunley, is fifth on the Miami (Ohio) team in tackles with 44. Nunley, a 5-8 senior defensive back, also has one interception.
