Designers to tackle odd spaces

“Designing for Awkward Spaces” is the title of a free workshop set for 10 a.m. today at the Landmarks Preservati­on Resource Center, 744 Rebecca Ave., Wilkinsbur­g (15221).

Designer Larry Scott of IKEA Pittsburgh will discuss modular products that can be used to turn an awkward space into a place for storage, crafting or entertainm­ent. He suggests bringing a laptop computer and the measuremen­ts of your awkward space. Afterward, IKEA experts will answer questions and offer advice. The 11⁄ hour program is sponsored by IKEA and Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation.

Free garden talk

Tired of the cold weather? Can’t wait to get your hands dirty again in the garden? The Allegheny County Parks Department will hold a free program, “Let’s Talk About Gardening,” at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Buffalo Inn in South Park. No registrati­on is required.

There will be door prizes, ,including free seeds and tools. Penn State master gardeners will be on hand to answer questions. Bring something to drink and a tablet to take notes.

Philly Flower Show trip

Atlas Travel Service is offering a visit to the Philadelph­ia Flower Show March 5-6.

The bus will leave Pittsburgh the morning of March 5 and include a tour that afternoon of the Philadelph­ia Museum of Art. Lodging at the Holiday Inn Express-Midtown is included and an evening visit to the flower show is optional.

After breakfast at the hotel the morning of March 6, there will be a special guided tour of the show from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. before it opens to the public. The bus leaves for Pittsburgh at 4 p.m.

Cost is $369 double occupancy, $85 more for a single. A $100 nonrefunda­ble deposit is due by Jan. 24.
