Stuard cards another 65

Brian Stuard had his fourth consecutiv­e round of 65 at the Sony Open in Honolulu. Too bad it’s only Friday.

Stuard finished his second round with a hybrid into 2 feet for eagle and a 5-under 65. That gave him a one-shot lead over Marc Leishman of Australia and Hideto Tanihara (65) of Japan on another gorgeous day on Oahu.

Stuard, who was at 10-under 130, had a 65-65 weekend at Waialae a year ago when he tied for fifth. Leishman had a 64.

Joost Luiten of the Netherland­s holed out for an albatross on the par-5 10th hole, helping him shoot a 5-under 67 to share the lead at 7-under 137 at the Volvo Golf Champions in Durban, South Africa, with Louis Oosthuizen (69) and Tommy Fleetwood (67) .

Bulgarian qualifier Tsvetana Pironkova beat fifth-seeded Angelique Kerber of Germany, 6-4, 6-4, to win her first WTA title at the Sydney Internatio­nal in Australia. Top-seeded Juan Martin del Potro will meet reigning champ Bernard Tomic in the men’s final. Del Potro scored a 6-4, 6-2 win over fourth-seeded Dmitry Tursunov, and Tomic had a 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-3 win over Sergiy Stakhovsky.

the second coast-to-coast One honor three people killed in the Boston Marathon bombing and raise funds for 260 people wounded in the attack. The nonstop relay begins March 16 in Santa Monica, Calif., and ends April 13 in Boston, two days before the anniversar­y of the explosions and a week before this year’s marathon.
