IUP allows 38 unanswered in loss

-

Held to 176 yards of total offense, IUP gave up 38 unanswered points in the game’s final 38 minutes in a 44-7 loss Saturday at PSAC foe Kutztown. The Crimson Hawks (1-1, 0-1), who entered the game ranked No. 20 in Division II, took the lead in the second quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run from Central Catholic graduate Luigi Lista-Brinza. That advantage, though, proved to be brief. The Golden Bears (1-1, 1-0) got four touchdown passes from Chad Barton to Anthony Kelly, all of which went for at least 12 yards, to take a commanding 34-7 lead. Nine of the Crimson Hawks’ final 11 drives ended in a punt or a turnover. On those possessions, they were able to gain only 52 yards on 40 plays. The loss was IUP’s most lopsided in more than a decade. Lista-Brinza was held to 28 yards on 15 carries and quarterback Chase Haslett completed 10 of 32 passes with two interceptions.
