Awards and Honors
Olga Welch, dean of the School of Education at Duquesne University, is the recipient of the inaugural Alan Lesgold Award for Excellence in Urban Education from the University of Pittsburgh School of Education’s Center for Urban Education. In addition to her work as dean of Duquesne’s School of Education, Ms. Welch is a founding member of The Pittsburgh Promise and serves on its board.
Kurt Carlson, executive vice president and financial adviser, Hefren-Tillotson, Inc., was named to Barron’s 2015 Top Advisor Rankings in Pennsylvania.

Joel Tarr of Carnegie Mellon University was awarded the 2015 Distinguished Service Award by the American Society for Environmental History. Mr. Tarr, the Richard S. Caliguiri University Professor of History and Policy, has additional appointments in the H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management and the Department of Engineering and Public Policy.
