Cattle Baron’s Ball
The Place: Thursday night at the Pittsburgh Opera Headquarters, Strip District
Wine and Boots Bash: The American Cancer Society welcomed country music star (and American Idol season 10 winner) Scotty McCreery as well as Canaan Smith from Mercury Records to entertain roughly 270 cowboys and cowgirls at this inaugural event. “We wanted to do something different that we haven’t done to showcase the ACS to a crowd that may not be as familiar with our services,” said Patti Patterson of the cancer society. Guests enjoyed cocktails from Bird Dog Whiskey and nibbles courtesy of Sausalido before enjoying the show.
And now a moment with...Scotty McCreery: What has life been like
post-American Idol? “I’ve been touring with Brad Paisley, and I’m going on the road this summer with Rascal Flatts," he said in his deep, southern drawl. "It’s been amazing, I still can’t quite believe what happened.” What advice can you give young performers? “Just have fun with it and keep doing it. You never know who may be hearing you sing. I was just a normal kid from North Carolina!” What do you love about
Pittsburgh? “The last time I was here, we checked out Primanti Brothers,” he said laughing. How do you stay
grounded? “My family and friends keep me in check. I still have friends that I’ve known forever...they don’t care about the fame stuff. They know I just want to keep playin’ music and do good things like this event tonight.”
