Special gesture boosted spirits of cancer patient

-

Since the age of 37, I have been battling ovarian cancer — stage 3C for nearly five years.

It has been an uphill battle the entire time, filled with surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation. I have been blessed, though, with an amazing group of family and friends always giving me love, support and prayers. Part of that family lives in McKees Rocks, and I visit them a few times a year from Cleveland.

When I was visiting one weekend this month, we stopped at Max & Erma’s for a late dinner. To our wonderful surprise, another patron had instructed the waitress to pay for our entire table — eight people. That person recognized I had cancer and wanted to do something nice for us. My sister burst into tears because she was so touched by their graciousness.

I was thankful, because once again my children, ages 16 and 13, got to see the kindness of others. They have gone through so much with my illness that it makes my heart sing any time they experience kindness. I always am sure to remind them that we can return the kindness, too.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to that generous person with the beautiful heart. I promise we will bring your kindness back to Cleveland!
