Cubs 6, Phillies 2: Jorge Soler, David Ross and Kris Bryant hit long home runs to back Jon Lester (5-3) and lead Chicago to a victory against Philadelph­ia at Wrigley Field. The big drives helped the Cubs win their third in a row after dropping 8 of 12.

Cardinals 6, Nationals 2: Stephen Piscotty hit a grand slam off Max Scherzer (5-4) in a five-run third and Jaime Garcia (4-4) quieted Washington’s lineup to lead visiting St. Louis to a win. Coming off consecutiv­e ineffectiv­e starts, Garcia held Washington to two runs over seven innings.

Brewers 9, Reds 5: Aaron Hill hit two solo homers and Jonathan Lucroy added a solo shot and three RBIs, as Milwaukee outslugged Cincinnati for a victory at Miller Park handing the Reds their 11th loss in a row.

Mets 6, Dodgers 5: Curtis Granderson homered in the ninth to give New York a victory against visiting Los Angeles. New York took a 3-0 lead in the first against Julio Urias (0-1) and chased the 19-year-old after 22⁄3 innings in his debut.

Rockies 5, Giants 2: Rookie Trevor Story went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and starter Tyler Chatwood (6-3) went seven innings for the win as Colorado beat visiting San Francisco.

Braves 4, Marlins 2: Nick Markakis hit a tie-breaking, two-run single off third baseman Nick Prado’s glove with two outs in the eighth as Atlanta beat visiting Miami.

Yankees 4, Rays 1: Alex Rodriguez homered for the first time since coming off the disabled list and Masahiro Tanaka (3-0) pitched seven shutout innings as New York won at Tampa Bay. Tanaka ran his career-best unbeaten streak to 11 starts.

Blue Jays 7, Red Sox 5: Josh Donaldson hit two home runs and drove in five runs as host Toronto snapped a five-game home losing streak with a win against Boston. The reigning AL MVP went 4 for 5

Orioles 6, Indians 4: Chris Davis’ RBI double broke a seventh-inning tie and Manny Machado went 4 for 5 as Baltimore ended a four-game losing streak with a victory in Cleveland.

Royals 7, White Sox 5: Eric Hosmer went 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs to lead Kansas City past Chicago at Kauffman Stadium. Closer Wade Davis pitched the ninth for his 13th save of the season.
