Allentown bar shut down
Hilltop Tavern on East Warrington Avenue in Allentown was shut down by the health department Thursday for health code violations and for failing to allow inspectors to access the facility for a follow-up look. The tavern was cited earlier in the week for having no hot water and for a sewage backup in the basement, according to an inspection report by the Allegheny County Health Department. “Evidence of a chronic, recurring condition,” the report said of the sewage problem. Two days later, “The person responsible for this facility failed to meet with inspectors …and allow access to this facility in order to assess the abatement of two imminent hazards,” the report said. Hilltop is to remain closed until violations are corrected. Inspection reports for food facilities in the county are available at www.achd.net.

U.S. regulators: Still heavy risk in big bank loans
Federal regulators say risk remains heavy in large loans made by banks and other financial institutions, though lending standards have improved. The Federal Reserve and other agencies cite increasing risks in loans to oil and gas producers as oil prices have fallen to three-month lows. The regulators said their latest examinations also showed continued high risk from loans made to companies that are already heavily in debt. The steep decline in oil prices has hurt many energy companies, making it harder for them to repay their loans. The amount of large oil and gas loans that are at risk of failing or already in default doubled in the first quarter from the same period in 2015, according to the agencies’ semi-annual review.
