SHADY SIDE ACADEMY
The school and the EQT Foundation have announced the creation of the EQT Scholars Program at Shady Side, which provides full scholarships for two SSA students from prekindergarten or kindergarten through grade 12. SSA’s EQT Scholars are prekindergarten student Kellan Kight and kindergarten student Adrianna Ballard, both of Monroeville, who enrolled at SSA this fall.
The program is funded by an endowment from the EQT Foundation, the charitable arm of the natural gas producer. The students will remain EQT Scholars for their entire time at SSA as long as they continue to qualify for financial assistance and remain in good academic standing. Over 13 or 14 years at SSA, the scholarship is worth more than $300,000. When each of the current scholars graduates from SSA, a new EQT Scholar will be selected.
The first program was created at Winchester Thurston School in 2015.
SENECA VALLEY
The district’s newly renovated soccer and lacrosse field will be named the Myers Law Group SoccerLacrosse Stadium. The school board on Monday approved a 10-year licensing agreement with Myers Law Group LLC for naming rights to the field. The firm will pay the district $50,000.
Jeffrey Myers said his firm, which he founded with wife, Wendy, was looking for an opportunity to expand its name. Two of the couple’s three children attend Seneca Valley and the other is a graduate. Mr. Myers is president of the Seneca Valley Soccer Booster Club.
MONTOUR
The board will hold two public hearings at 6 p.m. Thursday at the administrative offices on proposals to close Burkett Elementary and Forest Grove Elementary schools.
