-

For the first time as a member of Class 2A, PennTrafford’s field hockey team can call itself WPIAL champion. The Warriors defeated

Oakland Catholic, 6-1, for their second title. Their first came in 2011 as a member of Class 3A.

“It feels great,” Warriors coach Cindy Dutt said. “They worked hard for it. I think we have more energy now than we did before the game.”

Senior Bri Lander got the scoring started, finding the back of the goal three minutes into the game. The offensive star of the game for the Warriors was junior Alayna Wagner, who registered a hat trick.

The win was the second of the season for the Warriors against Eagles, who they defeated, 8-0, in the regular the season.

All season, Penn-Trafford played up with Class 3A opponents, which Dutt believed helped her squad.

“The experience we received during the season made us more prepared for this game,” Dutt said.
