PG London theater tour features Daniel Radcliffe
The Post-Gazette’s annual Critic’s Choice London Theater Tour features English comedy of three kinds — musical, farce and thoughtful wit, the third led by Daniel Radcliffe (aka the former Harry Potter).
The trip will be March 5-12. Included are these three plays and enough time to see up to a halfdozen more.
• “The Comedy About a Bank Robbery,” a “lungbustingly funny” farce. A previous PG theater group busted its lungs laughing at “The Play That Goes Wrong,” created by the same group.
• “Half a Sixpence,” a 1965 musical about an orphan who inherits a fortune. Revived by Cameron Mackintosh, it has a new book by Julian Fellowes (“Downton Abbey”) and five-star reviews.
• “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead,” the first big hit (1966) by Tom Stoppard, about two characters in “Hamlet” who can’t figure out what’s going on. Mr. Radcliffe plays the goofy Rosencrantz.
Only 20 spaces are available. Critic’s Choice tours are informal, led by Christopher Rawson, Post-Gazette senior theater critic. The group stays at the Radisson Edwardian Kenilworth Hotel, in walking distance of West End theaters, Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square.
Included is a welcoming dinner and guided walking tour. Daily there will be an optional tour or recommended museum, and the bus and subway pass provided allow for plenty of other options.
Included are round-trip air between Pittsburgh and London; transfers between the London airport and hotel; full English breakfast daily; welcoming dinner; three theater tickets; London bus and subway pass; a guided London walking tour; taxes, VAT and gratuities on included items; and Mr. Rawson’s guidance.
The basic tour price is $3,499, double-occupancy; the single supplement is $499. This price is based on air fares due to increase if booked after Jan. 16. Registration requires a deposit of $500 per person and completed Reservation Request Form. All payments are to be made to Gulliver’s Travels Inc., 460 S. Graham St., Pittsburgh PA 15232-1210.
