There’s still time to be part of Top Workplaces

-

One of the companies that made it onto the Post-Gazette’s list of the Pittsburgh region’s top workplaces last year offered its employees chiropractic care in the office at least once a month.

Another offered 100 percent matching for 401(k) retirement savings plans and immediate vesting.

Competition is pretty intense out there. Just ask Uber and Google.

And then there’s the issue of getting the most out of employees — something that can be hard to do if turnover is high and you’re always training new workers or if people’s efforts are stymied by the company’s own systems or bureaucracy.

Employers who need feedback on what their staff really think about their jobs still have time to be part of the annual Top Workplaces project that the Post-Gazette partners on with Workplace Dynamics, based in Exton, Pa.

The deadline to nominate an organization this year has been extended to March 24.

Any employee can submit a nomination at www.post-gazette.com/nominate.

Nominations also can be made by phone at 412-428-8020.

It takes only one nomination to start the process, although companies and organizations have to choose to be part of the survey.

The annual rankings have the effect of producing a good list of Pittsburgh-area organizations that

potential employees should consider working for. The process also is meant to help improve any workplace that gets involved.

Workplace Dynamics surveys thousands of employees in the region — last year almost 20,000 people took the survey — asking questions that get at the issue of what organizations are doing well and what isn’t going smoothly.

Importantly, participating organizations get free feedback from the surveys, even if they don’t make the final rankings.

There is no cost to participate.

Organizations that can be part of this include forprofit businesses, nonprofits and government entities that employ 50 or more people in the Greater Pittsburgh area, including Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

Last year’s top-ranking companies were Pitt Ohio (with more than 500 employees), Albensi Dental Laboratory Inc. (more than 150 people on staff) and Fidelity Investments (50 employees in the region).

Check out a survey sample at www.workplacedynamics.com/the_survey.

The Post-Gazette will publish the results for Pittsburgh-area employers in August. A special event also will be held that month where the top honors are announced in front of a crowd of people who also happen to work at one of the region’s Top Workplaces.
