Monroeville to update its home rule charter

- By Deana Carpenter

Monroeville council has approved advertising revisions to its home rule charter, which has not been updated since 1997.

“This does not mean the public still can’t give comment,” Monroeville manager Tim Little said at the April 11 meeting.

The municipality has until August to put a referendum on the ballot for voters to vote on the changes, he said.

There are many changes to the charter, so the process could take up to four years, he said.

The public can view the charter and the proposed revisions at the municipal building or online at www.monroeville.pa.us.

Council approved site plans from Forbes Regional Hospital to build a 13,093-square-foot addition on the eastern side of the hospital for surgery services and a 1,382-squarefoot addition on the western side of the hospital for a new stair tower.

Council awarded the 2017 paving contract for $325,156 to Youngblood Paving of New Castle.

A $107,765 contract was awarded to Russell Standard of Pittsburgh for fogseal coating of surfaces.

Josie Rock was introduced as the new director of finance.

Paul Whealdon is the new director of planning and zoning.
