Execution carried out

-

Just before midnight Thursday, Arkansas carried out the first execution in the state since 2005.

Ledell Lee was put to death after state officials learned the U.S. Supreme Court had rejected his last appeals.

Arkansas planned to execute eight convicted murderers over 11 days this month, and the state will try again next week, with two scheduled for Monday and one on Thursday. A fourth scheduled for Thursday currently has a stay in place.

Lee was convicted in the 1993 murder of Debra Reese, 26, a mother of a 6year-old, in her home.
