Ecolution Fashion Show

-

#PreservingWonders: Downtown’s Fairmont Pittsburgh hotel was the place to be #SEEN on Thursday night as models in sustainable fashions sashayed down the runway to celebrate Earth Day during a cocktail party and fashion show.

“Every year this event just gets bigger and better and we are so proud to be a part of it,” said Gino Chiodo, co-owner of Izzazu Salon, Spa + Serata, which styled models to fit the theme “The Planets ... Preserving the Wonders of the Universe.” The night kicked off with innovative dancing from the Stacyee Pearl Dance Project and videos from “Silent Spring” and the first steps on the moon. Then the fashions took center stage.

The crowd couldn’t take their eyes off of the inventive looks that utilized recycled materials such as floppy disks, cassette tape, window screen and more. Four winners were chosen for innovation and high-fashion looks that combined beauty with sustainability: Carol Luckner, Terry Boyd, Alana Rachel Yoffee and Bradford Mumpower. So what set them apart? Judge Jose Diaz, Milton Fine curator of art for The Andy Warhol Museum, said: “I want the pieces to be inspired in a way that pushes them to a new level and treats them in unexpected ways. I expect sophistication and good execution.”

#SEEN: Emcees Brian Siewiorek of WYEP-FM and Michele Michaels of WDVEFM, judges Tereneh Mosley, Mary Lou Arscott, Mr. Diaz and your very own #SEEN editor. Also in attendance, Lucas and Renee Piatt, who showcased her own pieces of the universe, jewelry made from stones and other earthly artifacts, Emilio and Donina Cornacchione, Rebecca Whitlinger, Gina Pferdehirt, Rich and Cindy Engler, Larry Leahy, Nancy DiFiore, Nate Wadding, #SEENBestDressed Jay Barlow, and Hugh Dunn.
