Former Peters Township ace knocking on big league door

Jankowski is having an excellent season as a relief pitcher with the Houston Astros Class AAA team in the Pacific Coast League. Jankowski, a former star at Peters Township High School, is 1-1 with a 0.82 ERA for the Fresno Grizzlies. Heading into this week, he had pitched 13 innings in 12 games. He had two saves and had allowed only one run and 10 hits. He struck out 14. This is Jankowski’s third season with the Grizzlies.

Washington University freshman gets her kicks with USA Soccer

Cohen is a 2016 graduate of Fox Chapel who has been chosen to play for the USA D-3 Soccer Team, which will play a series of games in Brazil later this month and in June. Cohen recently finished her freshman year at Washington University in Missouri and was one of only 16 NCAA DIvision III players in the country selected to the team. She helped Washington win an NCAA Division III title last season and scored the only goal in the title game.

Former Pitt backup stands out as starting shortstop as a senior

A backup for much of his career, DeMeo has spent his final season with the Pitt baseball team as the starting shortstop. Pitt (21-23) has played 44 games and DeMeo has started 42. He is hitting .231 and leads the Panthers in doubles with 15. He also has three home runs and 25 RBIs. Pitt has two weeks left in the regular season. DeMeo played at Central Catholic and was a Post-Gazette All-Area selection as a senior.
