What should district name new primary building?
Shaler Area School District is asking for suggestions of what it should name the new school that is being built to house students from the former Rogers Primary School and from Jeffery Primary School.
The new school, which will house grades K-3, is being built on Scott Avenue at the site of Rogers Primary, which was damaged by fire in April 2015. Jeffery Primary will close when the new school is finished.
The original timeline called for the school to be completed in December of this year. The district plans to review the construction progress in late August or September to determine if the date needs to adjusted.
Suggestions for a name will be accepted through June 25.
A link on Shaler Area’s website will lead to the submissions form: http:// www.sasd.k12.pa.us/.
A committee representing parents, community members, board members, administrators and teachers will review all of the suggested names and send their recommendation or recommendations to the superintendent. The school board will select the name in August.
The new two-story school will accommodate 460 to 600 students and is designed to house each grade level in its own neighborhood of classrooms and special education rooms. The 82,279square-foot building will have enhanced security features, a separate cafeteria, library, gymnasium and STEAM — science, technology, engineering, arts and math — room plus additional parking.
