Do leaders now see the high-powered danger?
When the massacre at Sandy Hook happened, with the death of so many innocents, many of us questioned the need for regular citizens to own the highpowered models developed to discharge multiple bullets with a single pull of the trigger, for a high-kill goal. But, once again, the National Rifle Association reigned supreme, and Congress buckled to pressure.
With the target of Wednesday’s Alexandria, Va., shooter truly striking close to home, will any form of control for assault rifles be a subject for discussion? I have every confidence Sen. Bob Casey will feel this need and less confidence in Sen. Pat Toomey and Rep. Keith Rothfus. I can only hope.
I pray for those wounded, but, as said, hope for a raising of consciousness once again — with positive results. JOYCE MOON STROBEL

public servants. GREER ARGYROS MULHOLLAND Edgewood County I do not receive a printed confirmation of my vote from the machine. It is my belief that the machines here in the county and probably throughout Pennsylvania cannot be verified. It is a sad state of affairs when we don’t know if our vote is being manipulated. The four states that the Democrats lost through the Electoral College are Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin. Do these other states have the same voting machines that we have here in Pennsylvania?
I would like very much to start a campaign throughout the state to ensure that our vote is counted by voting on a paper ballot. We can request an absentee ballot. It may take a while to count the votes, but at least we would have proof that our votes can be verified. ROSEANN FINNERTY
