Covestro seeks deals to expand in plastics, chemicals
Covestro is seeking acquisitions to expand its specialty plastics and chemicals business. Patrick Thomas, chief executive, said the company expects to generate 5 billion euros ($5.7 billion) in cash flow over the next five years and will use the money for mergers and acquisitions. If it doesn’t find suitable investments in 24 months, Covestro will return the cash to shareholders through share buybacks or special dividends, he said.
Age discrimination case settled
Pittsburgh Glass Works and a former employee who charged the company with retaliation and age discrimination have reached a settlement. Rudolph Karlo and several other former workers who were 50 years old or older sued for age discrimination after PGW terminated them in 2009. Mr. Karlo was later rehired and claimed PGW then retaliated against him because he would not drop the original discrimination case. A federal court jury awarded him more than $900,000 in lost wages and benefits.
The Brassero Grill mobile food truck at 6800 Frankstown Ave. was hit with a consumer alert by the Allegheny County Health Department because of a number of uncorrected health code violations. Some of the problems included holding numerous foods at unsafe temperatures, inadequate water supply and lack of a certified food safety manager.
Kraft Heinz to sell New York cheese plant to cooperative
Kraft Heinz Co. said it reached a deal to sell its cheese plant in Campbell, N.Y., to Upstate Niagara Cooperative for undisclosed terms. Upstate Niagara is a farmer-owned cooperative of 360 dairy farms in western New York. The transaction is expected to close in the next two months.
