Man fatally shot in Kennedy

A Beechview man is charged with criminal homicide, accused of shooting his co-worker Friday evening.

Deon Wells, 23, told Allegheny County police that he and Timothy Maxon worked together at ARC Human Services and were working the overnight shift on Kenridge Drivein Kennedy.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Mr. Wells told detectives that Mr. Maxon arrived at work agitated and was swearing at him.

Mr. Wells said he went out to the driveway to get away from Mr. Maxon, who followed him, continuing to botherhim.

At one point, Mr. Wells said he sat in the passenger seat of his car with the door open, and Mr. Maxon approached again, yelling and swearing.

According to the criminal complaint, Mr. Wells reached in his glove box, removed a pistol and stood up with the gun down to his side.

He told Mr. Maxon to back up, and Mr. Wells said Mr. Maxon refused, instead heading toward him with both fists clenched.

Mr. Wells told police he raised the gun and fired two shots into the man’s chest before making the gun safe, putting it on top of the car and calling 911.

He waited for officers to arrive and told them, according to the complaint, that he has a permit to carry a firearm.

Investigat­ors asked Mr. Wells whether he saw any weapon in Mr. Maxon’s hands as he approached, and Mr. Wells said he did not.
