Pall of Texas shooting hangs over town

SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Texas— First responders andlaw enforcemen­t personnels­tood with heads bowed Saturdayin Sutherland Springsfor a Veterans Day ceremonyth­at also was meantto honor the more thantwo dozen people killed ablock away at a church.

About100 people attended theceremon­y outside the town’scommunity center, wherea wreath was placed nearflags to remember those killedin last weekend’s mass shooting,nearly half of whom hadties to the Air Force.

“Maybe this will start the healing process that will get Sutherland Springs and Wilson County to put this horrific tragedy behind us and look to the future,” county Judge Richard Jackson told the gathering, his voice breaking.

Mr.Jackson, the county’s top administra­tor, thanked thefirst responders and otherswho rushed to First BaptistChu­rch in the aftermath of Sunday’s shooting. What they sawthere will affect them the restof their lives, he said.

Legionnair­es outbreak

ANAHEIM,Calif. — Disneyland­has shut down two bacteria-contaminat­ed cooling towers after health officials discovered several cases ofLegionna­ires’ disease in peoplewho had visited the Anaheimthe­me park.

The12 cases of the bacteria-causedilln­ess were discovered­about three weeks agoand included nine people whohad visited Disneyland Parkin September before developing the illness. Their ages ranged from 52 to 94.

The remaining three were Orange County residents who did not visit the park but lived or traveled in Anaheim.

Actor accused of assault

A former male model has accused actor George Takei of sexually assaulting him in 1981, adding to the growing list of Hollywood personalit­ies caught up by the growing wave of scandal.

On Friday, the Hollywood Reporter published an interview with Scott R. Brunton, who says he was groped by the former “Star Trek” actor when Mr. Brunton was 23 and Mr. Takei was in his 40s. According to the article, Mr. Takei tried to remove Mr. Brunton’s underwear after Mr. Brunton passed out from drinking at Mr. Takei’s condo. In a Facebook post, Mr. Takei denied the charge.
