Sunday Supper with 412 Food Rescue

-

The Place: Nov. 12 at LUXE Creative in Point Breeze.

#PartyWithAPurpose: Nobody does a Sunday supper quite like 412 Food Rescue, an organization committed to ending food waste and insecurity in southwestern Pennsylvania and beyond. The sold-out event featured a 10-course (yes, you read that right!) meal created by upand-coming chefs from all over the country, using rescued food. But what is rescued food? “Rescued food is just surplus food that isn’t sold by the ‘sell by’ date that restaurants cannot use,” said Leah Lizarondo, co-founder and CEO of 412 Food Rescue. The organization has saved more than 1.5 million pounds of food since its inception in 2015, redirecting fresh produce and other items to nonprofits instead of landfills. “We wanted to connect chefs who think about food and food waste from all over the country to this event and learn how they can make impacts in their own community,” said Jamilka Borges, a member of the advisory board as well as executive chefof Spoon.

Want to become a food rescuer? It’s easier than you think. Just download the 412 Food Rescue app and receive push notifications for food that needs rescued in your area. You simply pick the food up and the app tells you which nonprofit to deliver it to. Check out Setting the SEEN’s video to show you how easy it is.
