Diop scores 20 again in Pitt win

For the second consecutiv­e game, redshirt junior forward Yacine Diop reached the 20point mark to lead the Pitt women’s basketball team (31) past visiting Towson (0-3), 81-63, Sunday afternoon.

The 5-foot-10 forward is the first Panther to score 20 or more points in back-to-back games since Brianna Kiesel did so against Notre Dame (27) and Clemson (22) Feb. 26 and March 1, 2015. Diop had 22 points last time out against Duquesne.

Diop scored 24 points on 7 of 18 from the field, 1 of 3 from 3-point range and 9 of 13 from the free-throw line. She added nine rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block. Her nine free throws and five assists are careerhigh marks.

East Tennesse State 81, Duquesne 77: In a game that saw eight ties and 12 lead changes, East Tennessee State hung on to defeat visiting Duquesne at Brooke Gymnasium. Conor Richardson scored a career-high 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting and KadriAnn Lass recorded a doubledoub­le of 13 points and 10 rebounds and tied her school record with eight blocks for the Dukes (2-2). Buccaneers guards Tianna Tarter (33) and Erica Haynes-Overton (21) combined for 54 points to lead ETSU (4-1) to its fourth victory in a row.

West Virginia 87, North Florida 59: Junior guard Katrina Pardee scored a careerhigh 20 points as No. 12 West Virginia (3-0) topped visiting North Florida (2-2) for its third consecutiv­e win.
