Republicans can’t have it both ways on decency

-

Remember when the Republican Party self-righteously claimed to represent the Moral Majority? This week that same Republican Party, under the leadership of one Donald J. Trump, declared that it is supporting accused child molester Roy Moore in his bid for the Alabama senator’s seat vacated by Jeff Sessions upon his appointment to the office of U.S. attorney general.

At the same time, the Democratic Party put enough pressure on accused sexual harasser Rep. John Conyers to cause him to retire from office immediately.

Who indeed does make up the Moral Majority in our country? Surely it cannot be the Republicans who, with the exception of Arizona’s Sen. Jeff Flake, choose party over country and sexual misconduct over respect for women. They can’t have it both ways.Either they have a sense of decency, or they once again shamelessly choose the abuse of their constituency over the interestsof those same people. DAVE GEIS

We welcome your opinion

the elimination of the Affordable Care Act individual mandate, my premium will escalate in 2019.

Sen. Toomey calls himself a Christian man, but he does not live the values of a Christian man. He would have been the Pharisee in biblical times. He can no longer hide behind deception. LINDA MEACCI Shadyside could have said it better.

This tax plan being pushed through by the Republicans will hurt the poor and middle class, and I am waiting for all of them to realize just what Donald Trump and the Republicans are doing to them. My only worry is that it will come too late. VIOLETTE BALDESSARI

I disagree with the Federal Trade Commission’s decision

to fine Victory Media (Nov. 14, “FTC Settles With Moon Company Over Endorsements of Schools for Veterans”). As a retired U.S. Navy submariner, I have firsthand experience of the importance of accountability and of accepting responsibility for one’s actions.

Victory Media’s statement that “They asked us to continue to work to be more clear and conspicuous with disclosures” and “Since their remedy was not in conflict with any of our business practices, it was an easy decision to accept” shows that Victory Media is neither acting in an accountable manner nor accepting responsibility for its deceptive actions.
