And we love writing Christmas songs. Punchline has a pretty decent Christmas song, out of the four to five total we have.”

Mr. Clegg is doing a version of “Silent Night,” based loosely on the Temptations’ rendition, which features a soaring falsetto from Glenn Leonard.

“Yeah, you won’t be hearing any of that from me,” the gravely voiced soul singer says with a laugh. He could hurt himself attempting that. “And everyone’s ears,” he says. At the DVE show on Wednesday, he’ll pull out another favorite, Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas.” That show will also feature Wreck Loose, along with Donnie Iris, Joe Grushecky, Scott Blasey and Rob James (The Clarks), Paul Luc, Meeting of Important People, Gene the Werewolf, Bastard Bearded Irishmen, Molly Alphabet, Cisco Kid, and Bill Toms and Hard Rain.

“It’s a different feel,” Mr. Zoob says. “The DVE show will be half covers, half originals for one. And it features a lot more bands and fewer individual singers, as well as sketches and fun interludes. But they both share the spirit of community, they both celebrate Pittsburgh talent.”

The WYEP Holiday Hootenanny begins at 7 p.m. with DJ Dance Party featuring Selecta, followed by the show at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 advance/ $30 at the door. Children 12 and under free, but must be accompanied by adult. They’ll be collecting donations to benefit Jubilee Soup Kitchen. There also will be a silent auction.

Randy Baumann and the DVE Morning Show Christmas Show begins at 7 p.m. It is 21 and over.
