Konek nets 42 points for Scotties
Southmoreland’s newest star stands out in 81-47 rout
Cali Konek took the long way getting back to WPIAL competition, but she has picked up where she left off.
Konek scored 18 firstquarter points and finished with a game-high 42, as she led her new team, Southmoreland, to an 81-47 rout of Frazier in the Southmoreland tournament.
Konek scored more than 1,000 points for Imani Christian as a freshman two seasons ago. After playing out of state at Baptist High School in Marlboro, Md., a season ago, Konek, a junior guard, scored 34 points Friday in her season debut for the Scotties (2-0).

North Allegheny 61, Norwin 52: The tournament host Tigers (2-0), ranked No. 1 in 6A, outscored the Knights, 16-6, in the fourth quarter to pull out a win. Rachel Martindale had six points in the fourth and finished with 20.
Upper St. Clair 66, South Fayette 60: The Panthers (2-0) made 18 of 19 freethrow attempts and outscored the Lions, 10-4, in overtime at the South Fayette tournament.
Lincoln Park 27, Winchester Thurston 26: Sophomore Riley Arrigo made a 3-pointer with 7 seconds remaining, as the Leopards (1-0) upset the defending WPIAL Class 1A champions at the Midland tournament.

Neshannock 48, Ambridge 42: Behind six 3-pointers and a game-high 20 points from Ally Zarilla, the Class 3A No. 2 Lancers (2-0) picked up a win at the Ambridge tournament.

South Fayette 49, Freeport 46: Conner Mislan nailed a 3-pointer as time expired to lift the Lions (2-0) at the Freeport tournament.
Pine-Richland 63, Highlands 39: While the football team was playing for a PIAA championship, the top-ranked 6A Rams (2-0) won their tournament behind 24 points from Greg Shulkosky.
Hampton 59, North Hills 51: The Talbots (1-1) drained back-to-back 3-pointers late in the fourth quarter to pull away at the North Hills tournament.
Allderdice 36, Bethel Park 31: Tyler Williams put in 18 points for the Dragons (2-0) at the North Hills tournament.
Sewickley Academy 70, Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 42: The Panthers, 2-0 and ranked No. 1 in 2A, held the Trojans (0-2) to just 14 first-half points and rolled to victory at the Peters Township tournament.
