Toomey, show support now for Robert Mueller
Back in May, Sen. Pat Toomey issued a statement praising the selection of former FBI director Robert Mueller “as special counsel to continue the investigation into any links between Russia and individuals associated with the Trump campaign, and any matters that arose from such investigation — an assignment that encompasses investigating the recent allegations surrounding Michael Flynn and James Comey.” His statement continued: “I have every confidence that Robert Mueller will execute these responsibilities with integrity and professionalism.”
Now, as House Republicans and Fox News whip up partisan hysteria and launch slanderous attacks on the FBI — in response to Mr. Mueller’s steely execution of
— Mr. Toomey is unforgivably silent.
We’ve given up on Mr. Toomey representing the interests of middle-class Pennsylvanians on issues like taxes and health care. But surely on the critical issues of national security and preservation of the rule of law, we can all agree?
Mr. Toomey needs to speak out and take action to protect the special counsel now. Our democracy is under threat, Mr. Toomey, so even if you don’t care about your constituents, please show us you care about your country. DOUGLAS WIBLE
East Liberty and outlaw a common, evidence-based procedure used for second-trimester abortions.
As a provider of comprehensive reproductive health care in Pennsylvania, I know that physicians often have to guide patients through difficult health decisions and sometimes that decision is whether to end a pregnancy. These choices are very personal and complex and should be made by a woman in consultation with her family, her faith and her doctor. S.B. 3 strips Pennsylvanians of this autonomy, leaving women without a voice in their own health care decisions. Further, it ties the hands of physicians, who will have no option but to withhold safe and medically appropriate procedures from their patients.
On Tuesday of this week, the Pennsylvania House passed S.B. 3 after refusing to hold public hearings, blatantly ignoring the voices of those individuals most directly impacted by this bill. Gov. Tom Wolf has promised to veto the bill. I am grateful for those representatives who rejected S.B. 3, recognizing that these decisions should be left up to women and their doctors, not to politicians in Harrisburg. AMY COLLINS, M.D.

the election!
Democrats, please put up a likable, moderate presidential candidate at the next election. Whomever you put up will likely win since Donald Trump is such a monumental disaster (not policy-wise, necessarily, but character-wise). Please do not put up some ultra-left-wing candidate whom Republicans will hate with a passion.
Did you see the exchange between John McCain’s daughter and Joe Biden when they were discussing Sen. McCain’s brain cancer? Mr. Biden is pretty far left to me, but his humanity, his political experience and his life experiences would make for a good president.
Be smart, Dems! Do not put up a socialist! EDWARD GRAHAM Southern Shores, N.C.
