RB Peterson will miss rest of season

-

Adrian Peterson was placed on injured reserve Friday because of a neck injury, ending the running back’s season after only six games with Arizona.

Acquired from New Orleans on Oct. 10, Peterson ran for 448 yards — 314 in his first three games — and two touchdowns on 129 carries and had nine catches for 66 yards for the Cardinals. He missed the past two games. “I look forward to returning completely healthy for another season in 2018,” Peterson said.

Rams, Chiefs

Pharoh Cooper of Los Angeles and Kansas City’s Tyreek Hill split 10 of the 11 first-place votes in the AP kick returner rankings. Cooper finished with 102 points, 43 ahead of the Chiefs’ speedy multipurpose man because Hill was left off two ballots on the voting panel that includes Hall of Fame receiver James Lofton and 10 pro football writers.

Jets

New York benched defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson for its game against the Saints Sunday, the latest in what has become a string of discipline issues involving the franchise’s highest-paid player. Coach Todd Bowles said that Wilkerson will not travel with the team— just two weeks after the 2011 first-round draft pick was benched for most of the first quarter against Kansas City. “It’s a coach’s decision,” said Bowles, adding it was not injury-related.

Bills

Coach Sean McDermott said quarterback Tyrod Taylor will start Sunday for the Bills against Miami. Taylor sat out Buffalo’s 13-7 overtime win against Indianapolis last week with a knee injury. Rookie backup quarterback Nathan Peterman, from Pitt, is in the league’s concussion protocol.

Raiders

Oakland will be without receiver Amari Cooper for Sunday night’s game against Dallas. Cooper aggravated a left ankle injury in last week’s loss to Kansas City.

Seahawks, Jaguars

Offensive lineman Germain Ifedi was fined $24,309 by the NFL on Friday for verbal abuse of a game official. Ifedi was one of several members of the Seahawks docked Friday for their actions in the 30-24 loss and subsequent melee at Jacksonville last Sunday. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, Jaguars offensive line coach Pat Flaherty and Jaguars wide receivers coach Keenan McCardell were fined $10,000 each for improperly going on the field. Jacksonville running back Leonard Fournette was also fined $12,154 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
