We can’t have different rules for different sexual harassers
The current surge of sexual harassment charges has brought the treatment of women to the forefront of what is acceptable behavior not only in the workplace but also socially.
As a professional woman, I have withstood the vast inconsistency of women’s acceptance in the workplace. I have learned to balance professionalism and courage with the necessary demeanor to be accepted. I have fought to achieve accomplishments without appearing forceful, so as not to be strong-armed as a threat.
I find solace in the knowledge that now women will feel empowered to speak out without that fear, but I also have my own misgivings that somehow the misogynistic attitude we have been battling will somehow spin this to extreme backlash and set us back even further.
With all the accusations and firings, why is no one looking at the accusations against our president? If this is truly found to be unacceptable behavior, why were Republicans standing behind Roy Moore and pretending accusations do not matter?
It would appear, as I fear, that there are different rules for different people, which means our boldness as women to hold men accountable will always be pushed under the rug when it is in the way of a politically fueled agenda.
Don’t give up, ladies. We have a long road ahead. SUE McKELVEY
