SPRING REPORT
BRAVES 7 PIRATES 5
On the mound
Chad Kuhl allowed three runs and five hits in 21⁄ innings. 3 He held the Braves hitless through the first two innings, then gave up four consecutive hits before recording an out in the third.
“Third inning didn’t feel as clean,” Kuhl said. “There were a couple good pitches that fell and they hit some balls hard. Just balls finding some holes and them putting the bat on the ball.”
Danny Santana, Ender Inciarte and Ozzie Albies all singled, and Inciarte and Albies executed a double steal. Johan Camargo’s single drove home two runs before Kuhl struck out Tyler Flowers. Ronald Acuna Jr.’s single forced Kuhl from the game.
At the plate
The Pirates hit four home runs. Starling Marte homered to left-center field in the fourth against Braves starter Brandon McCarthy. Sean Rodriguez hit his third home run of the spring, and Max Moroff homered in the eighth. Jordan Luplow homered off Rex Brothers in the ninth.
In the field
The Braves robbed the Pirates of would-be hits twice. Third baseman Christian Colon leaped and spun to his right to snag a Rodriguez line drive that otherwise would have gone for extra bases in the third. Right fielder Danny Santana ran in on Corey Dickerson’s hard line drive and scooped the ball with his glove just above the grass to steal a hit in the fourth.
