BETHEL PARK
Council on Monday approved a measure allowing the consumption and sale of alcoholic beverages in municipal parks during events sponsored by the municipality.
The first event in which alcohol will be sold will be the Fourth of July festivities at Millennium Park. Council President Tim Moury said some vendors will be selling alcohol at that event.
“You will not be allowed to bring anything [alcohol] from outside into the park,” he said.
BRIDGEVILLE
Police Chief Chad King said his department used Facebook to solve yet another crime.
The chief posted a video and still photographs Feb. 27 of a package thief on Cook School Road. A resident who saw the video tipped off police, which led to the recovery of the package, and the arrest of the thief on drug and theft charges.
Previously the department has used Facebook to track down a fugitive and identify a robbery suspect.
“Crowd sourcing is a powerful tool,” Chief Kennedy said at Monday’s council meeting.
McKEESPORT
Council voted to seek a $250,000 state grant from the Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program to help stop the Mansfield Bridge from flooding by fixing a broken pipe.
Council also approved hiring Kucich Construction of McKeesport to work on improvements to the Fawcett and Duncan baseball fields at a cost not to exceed $175,000.
