Steelers pick up a safety

-

Nat Berhe, a special teams player from the New York Giants, announced he is joining the Steelers as a free agent.

Berhe, who visited the Steelers Monday, thanked the Steelers on Twitter and said “Let’s bring home a Super Bowl.”

The Giants drafted him in the fifth round from San Diego State in 2014 and the backup safety played mostly on special teams for them. He replaces Robert Golden, a former special teams captain with the Steelers who was released by them in March and signed with the Kansas City Chiefs this week.

Ravens

Robert Griffin III is poised to resume his NFL career about 35 miles away from where he started it. The former Washington Redskins quarterback reached agreement on a 1-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens, who love the idea of having the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner backing up 10-year starter Joe Flacco.

“Obviously, his personality, he’s a confident guy. He’s a very talented quarterback,” coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday of Griffin. “He’s had a lot of success in this league early on. We’re excited about it. We felt like we needed a No. 2 quarterback.”

Griffin’s previous stop in an injury-riddled career came in 2016 with the Cleveland Browns. He started five games, winning only one of them.

Browns

Southern California quarterback Sam Darnold visited the Cleveland Browns, who are considering taking him with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft. Darnold is the second QB to stop in at the team’s facility this week after Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield visited Tuesday. Darnold appears to be the favorite to be taken by the Browns. Cleveland has spent most of the past two decades searching for a franchise quarterback. The Browns will bring in UCLA’s Josh Rosen, Wyoming’s Josh Allen and Louisville’s Lamar Jackson in the coming days.

Falcons

Atlanta kept one of the most versatile players on their defense by agreeing to a one-year contract with safety/linebacker Kemal Ishmael, an unrestricted free agent.

Bears

Chicago signed receiver Josh Bellamy, who will return for a fifth season in Chicago after catching 24 passes for 376 yards and a touchdown in 2017.
