City gets $3.6M to replace traffic signals
90 Downtown lights will be upgraded

Pittsburgh should now have the money to move ahead with the next step in replacing traffic lights in the Downtown area.
Gov. Tom Wolf announced a $3.56 million grant Thursday earmarked for upgrading another 35 traffic lights as part of the state’s “Green Light-Go” program. Across the state, 70 communities received grants worth $31 million, including 12 others in AlleghenyCounty worth $3.2 million.
The city is in the midst of a program to replace 90 lights in the Golden Triangle, some of which are as much as 50 years old. The new lights will be energy-efficient and can be coordinated to help traffic move more efficiently. City officials couldn’t be reached for commenton the grant.
The other grants awarded in Allegheny County were:
• Bellevue: $32,000 to install new LED traffic signal heads, new countdown pedestrian signals, and new audible push-buttons at the traffic signal at North and South Freemont Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.
• Carnegie: $22,640 to update traffic signal timings at the intersection of Main Street and JeffersonStreet.
• Crafton: $704,051 to modernizefour traffic signals along Noble Avenueand Crennell Avenue.
• Edgewood: $139,478 to modernize the traffic signal at Maple Avenue and Edgewood/Swissvale Avenue to include LED signal heads with mast arm installation, loop detection, countdown pedestrian signals and ADA-compliant curb ramps.
