Netflix tops Emmy nominees

CBS All Access’ excellent drama “The Good Fight,” which received just one nomination for music. Critically acclaimed Netflix comedy “One Day at a Time” was shut out of the competitio­n entirely.

NBC’s “The Good Place” scored a deserved Emmy nomination for lead actor and Carnegie Mellon University grad Ted Danson, but the series deserved more Emmy love.

Showtime’s“Twin Peaks” may have been partially a victim of timing, long forgotten in the sea of series that have premiered since its run last summer. “Twin Peaks: The Return” scored nine nomination­s but none in the top categories (series, lead actor, actress).

Long-running comedy “Modern Family” fell out of favor with Emmy voters, failing to get a best comedy series nomination for the first timein its nine-season run.

BBC America’s “Killing Eve” failed to score a best drama series nomination or attention for co-star Jodie Comer but star Sandra Oh made history as the first actress of Asian descent nominated for lead actress in a drama series.

A month after its host’s death, Anthony Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown” received six Emmy nomination­s, including best informatio­nal series or special.

Among all prime-time series, “Game of Thrones” had the most nomination­s (22) in all categories, followed by “SNL” (21) and “Westworld” (21). “This Is Us” landed eight Emmy nomination­s, down from last year’s 11.

This year’s Emmy race is marked by the return of “Game of Thrones,” which didnot air episodes during the eligibilit­yperiod for last year’s Emmys. This year HBO’s “Veep,” AMC’s “Better Call Saul” and Netflix’s “House of Cards” were sidelined becausethe­y did not air episodes duringthe eligibilit­y period.

For the first time in 18 years, per The Hollywood Reporter, HBO was not top dog in total nomination­s, bested by Netflix’s 112 nomination­s to HBO’s 108, followed by NBC with 78 and FX Networks with 50.

Colin Jost and Michael Che, “Weekend Update” anchors on “Saturday Night Live,” will host the “70th Primetime Emmy Awards” at 8 p.m. Sept. 17 on NBC.

MNT fall schedule

My Network TV, which airs in Pittsburgh on WPNT (Channel 22), will add backto-back reruns of “Chicago P.D.,” “The Good Wife” and “CSI: Miami” this fall on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights, respective­ly.

The new schedule, kicking off Sept. 24, brings back “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” on Mondays and “Dateline” on Wednesdays. Reruns of “Law & Order: SVU,” “The X-Files” and “American Ninja Warrior”will exit the schedule.

Channel surfing

Provocateu­r writer/director/star Sacha Baron Cohen (“Da Ali G Show,” “Borat”) returns to TV this weekend in Showtime’s seven-episode “Who Is America?” (11:59 p.m. Saturday), presumably introducin­g a new persona who conducts interviews with notablefig­ures (a trailer released features former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney). … Houghton Mifflin pulled the plug on 28-year-old classroom news service Channel One News, which helped launch the broadcast careers of Lisa Ling, CNN’s Anderson Cooper and 2002 Plum High School grad Steven Fabian (“Inside Edition”). … AT&T will launch Reese Witherspoo­n’s Hello Sunshine video ondemand channel July 17 on DirecTV (Channel 1112) and DirecTV Now with “Shine on With Reese,” where the actress interviews other entertaine­rs. … CBS canceled “CodeBlack.”
