Penguins, Oleksiak agree to extension

-

The Penguins announced Thursday that they signed defenseman Jamie Oleksiak to a threeyear contract extension with an average-annual value of $2,137,500.

The deal runs through the 2020-21 season.

Oleksiak, 25, was a restricted free agent, and the contract means he won’t go to arbitration.

In 47 regular-season games with the Penguins after arriving via trade with Dallas, Oleksiak had four goals and 14 points.

The Chicago Blackhawks traded Marian Hossa, 39, and Vinnie Hinostroza to the Arizona Coyotes, parting with a promising young forward in order to clear out a troublesome contract. The deal also included five other players and two draft picks. Hossa, whose contract through 2020-21 carries a $5,275,000 cap hit, did not play last season because of severe side effects from medication to treat a progressive skin disorder and isn’t expected to play again this season.
