Window Dressing: An evening of ’50s fashion
When and where: Friday night at The Andy Warhol Museum, North Side.
#BeforePop: The past was alive on Friday night as guests came dressed to impress in their favorite vintage (or vintage-inspired!) 1950s’ frocks to celebrate the “Adman: Warhol Before Pop” exhibit with a free fashion show curated by Richard Parsakian of Eons Fashion Antique in Shadyside. Mr. Parsakian showcased nine impeccable looks from his personal archives that brought the most fashionable era of the ‘50s back to life. “With his 1950s gloves and shoe buckles, the models looked like they were lifted from Warhol’s drawings. Eons is a Pittsburgh treasure, and Mr. Parsakian is a fashion icon with the spirit of an artist. “It was a joy to collaborate with him for this show,” said Jessica Beck, Milton Fine Curator of Art at The Warhol. “I love events at The Warhol. It’s an interactive museum and this is an interactive fashion show. Andy Warhol’s fascination with celebrity was heightened by the fashion designers who created their iconic looks. I, like Andy, collect these connections to history,” said Mr. Parsakian. The models, who were artists, designers, actresses, dancers and friends of Mr. Parsakian’s, sashayed through the crowd before making their way to the stage set up like a fabulous window treatment in a 1950s’ department store. The models brought the looks to life as the crowd ooohed and ahhhhed over the glorious pieces that included designs by Ceil Chapman, a favorite of Marilyn Monroe’s. Miriam Mayr wore the finale dress by Norman Norell. He was the designer who also created the wedding dress for Marilyn’s marriage to Arthur Miller. Throughout the fashion show, delicious 1950s crafted cocktails by the Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails (LUPEC) were served. Tunes were spun by DJ Soy Sos. It was an affair to remember! #SEEN: Director of the Andy Warhol Museum Patrick Moore with Joaquin Navarro, Michele de la Reza, Lana Neumeyer, Karin Mayr, Alexandra Gracik, Tamara Whiting and Aerion Abney, Tereneh Idia, Erin Belitskus, Melissa Lee, Jennifer Ayala, Jackie Guthridge, Ashley Koltonski, Mary Beth and Dave Johnson, Eliza Littleton, Terry and Tom McDonald.
