The Pennsylvania Resources Council will hold five collection events for hard-to-recycle items and household chemicals this month and into October.

These events, all from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., give people the opportunity to safety dispose of materials that cannot be recycled at curbside.

The cost for household chemicals is $3 per gallon, cash only. Smoke detectors will also be accepted for $3 each. There will be a fee for televisions and computer monitors, alkaline batteries, fluorescent tubes, printers, small freon appliances and tires.

The entire break-down of fees is contained in this link: http://prc.org/programs/ hard-recycle-collections/ west/

The events are scheduled as follows:

Aug. 18: Household chemicals — such as automotive fluids, cleaners, pesticides, paints and other chemicals that bear warning labels — at Boyce Park.

Aug.25: Hard-to-recycle items — computer towers, cell phones, printer and toner cartridges, CFLs and expanded polystyrene packaging — at no cost. Fees apply to accept televisions, computer monitors, alkaline batteries, fluorescent tubes, printers, small freon appliances and tires, at Century III Mall, West Mifflin.

Sept. 22: Household chemicals drop-off at South Park

Oct. 6: Hard-to-recycle items drop-off at Settlers Cabin Park.

Oct. 13: Household chemicals drop-off at Brady’s Run Park in Beaver County.
