Brentwood drives past border rival Carrick

Milcic involved in three scores in lopsided win

Brentwood easily claimed a 35-7 home victory against border rival Carrick of the City League Friday night in the opener for both teams.

John Milcic led the winning Spartans by rushing for two touchdowns. He also accounted for a 15-yard touchdown pass to Drew Wilson. Brentwood’s Ian Thomas added two short touchdown runs.

The Raiders were led by L.J. Orbovich who passed for 113 yards. Class 2A Brentwood led in total offensive yardage, 271174, while piling up 16 first downs to nine for Carrick.

Class 2A

Serra Catholic 44, Yough 25: The host Eagles led, 27-7, at halftime. Patrick Brennan threw two touchdown passes to Matt Ulishney, covering 63 and 50 yards for Serra. Ulishney finished the scoring with a 50-yard punt return in the fourth quarter.

Southmorel­and 18, Mount Pleasant 14: Brandon Peterson caught an 11-yard fourth-quarter pass for a touchdown from Zach Curnuto to lead the Scotties to a win in their home opener. Curnuto finished with 279 yards passing. Ronnie Robinson scored twice on the ground for Southmorel­and in the win.

Fort Cherry 20, Chartiers-Houston 13: The Rangers earned a road victory against the Buccaneers as Zachary Vincenti rushed for two touchdowns. Vincenti finished with 159 yards rushing on 18 carries for Fort Cherry which came back from an early 7-0 deficit.

Avonworth 49, Neshannock 21: Derek Johncour passed for 347 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Antelopes to victory at Neshannock. Jax Miller led the Avonworth ground attack with 148 yards rushing.

McGuffey 28, Ambridge 0: The Highlander­s blanked the 4A Bridgers at home as Christian Clutter accounted for every McGuffey touchdown. Clutter scored on a rushing touchdown and also returned a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown. Finally, Clutter scored on a 24-yard reception from Marshall Whipkey.

Washington 59, Laurel Highlands 25: WPIAL No. 1 Washington, the reigning champion, routed the visiting Class 4A Mustangs. Zack Swartz completed 16 of 20 passes for 375 yards and three touchdowns. Dylan Asbury led the Little Prexies with 113 yards rushing and four touchdowns.

South Allegheny 41, Frazier 14: Antonio Epps rushed for 169 yards and scored four touchdowns in leading the Gladiators to an impressive win against the Commodores at Glassport Stadium.

Mohawk 28, Laurel 12: Jordan Mollenkopf scored twice on receptions from Nick Wheeler to lead host Mohawk past the Class 1A Spartans.

Freedom 39, Hopewell 6: The visiting Bulldogs rolled against the Class 3A Vikings. Zach Rosa threw a touchdown pass and scored via a touchdown run, finishing with 49 yards rushing and 110 yards passing.

Class 1A

Farrell 40, University Prep 16: Christian Lewis rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns as Farrell of District 10 topped University Prep of the City League at Cupples Stadium. Messiah Wilkerson threw two touchdown passes for University Prep. PIAA No. 1 Farrell racked up 399 total yards and 17 first down to 147 yards and six first downs for the Panthers.

Avella 14, Mapletown 12: Ty Jaworski’s 45-yard touchdown reception from Owen English rallied the host Eagles to victory against the Maples in the fourth quarter. English also scored in the first half on a 66-yard run.

Rochester 42, New Brighton 13: The Rams led, 30-6, at halftime against the 2A Lions. Noah Whiteleath­er led Rochester with 152 yards rushing and two touchdowns via runs of 19 and 6 yards. Rochester outrushed New Brighton, 325-16.

Leechburg 28, Apollo-Ridge 13: Jake Blumer’s second-half touchdown runs of 15 and 37 yards led the host Leopards to a victory against the Class 2A Vikings.
