Twilight Picnic for the Parks

-

It was a picture perfect Saturday night for more than 400 guests who attended the Twilight Picnic for the Parks on the lawn at the Hartwood Acres Mansion in Indiana Township. “People just love being in the parks, and this event lets them soak up the beauty of the great outdoors while enjoying an elegant evening,” said Caren Glotfelty, executive director of the Allegheny County Parks Foundation. It was also the perfect place for people watching, as guests like Bob Nutting, Maris Bondi and Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald with wife Kathy mingled in the crowd. “I’m just honored to be here and to help keep these parks beautiful, to encourage people to use them and be out in nature more. It’s good for the environment and good for us, as people, to stay active and healthy through the great outdoors,” said Dan Onorato. After a lively cocktail hour, guests moved into a beautifully decorated tent for a sitdown dinner before a live performance by Lucie Arnaz, daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. She performed an eclectic mix of music including pop, Broadway standards, Latin, and brand new songs about love and relationships, along with some comedy. “This was really a grassroots effort,” said Ellen Brooks. “We have a very active board, and at the end of the day, we just want to help make our parks more ecofriendly and accessible for everyone to enjoy.” The event raised more than $340,000 to help keep our county parks beautiful.
