It’s time for Oktoberfests — and Harvest Brew Fiesta
German Buffet (http://straubbeer.com/? age-verified=64c88bb481). Hitchhiker Brewing Co. is releasing its Oktoberfest Thursday, in cans and draft, in Mt. Lebanon and Sharpsburg. The beer is described as having flavor notes of toasted bread, biscuit, apple skin and caramel.
At Lawrenceville’s Church Brew Works, they tapped the Oktoberfest last week, but they’re celebrating through Oct. 7 and selling the brew, including in cool 2-liter cans from — where else? -— Germany (https:// churchbrew.com/events). And there’s pumpkin marzen ice cream for dessert.
Bethel Park’s Spoonwood Brewing celebrates its Septofest Saturday through the end of the month, with ax throwing, roast pig, live turtles and, of course, German food: https://spoonwoodbrewing.com.
From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, Cinderlands Beer Co. in Lawrenceville is presenting a five-course Oktoberfest beer dinner for $60 (https:// www.eventbrite.com/e/beer-dinner-3oktoberfest-dinner-tickets-49863627452).
A beery first Pittsburgh Oktoberfest is being held at Big Butler Fairgrounds in Prospect next weekend, Sept. 28-30 (http:// oktoberfestpitt.com).
There will be lots of Oktoberfests, but also lots of other fall beers — pumpkin ales, wet-hopped ales, fruity stuff — at the Harvest Ale Fiesta Saturday under a tent at the Mad Mex in Robinson. They’ll be offering more than 50 pours, at least half of which are local. “If you love all the rich, spicy, malty beers that autumn brings, this is your brewtopia.” Tickets include live music, a souvenir tasting glass for unlimited samples and a Gobblerito Wrap (or a veg option) and are $35 or $45 at the door: https://secure.bigburrito.com/?c=11.
Also Saturday, from 12:30 to 4 p.m., the Double Wide Grille in Adams is holding its Craft Beer Tapfest (www.facebook.com/ craftbeertapfest).
Meanwhile, starting Friday and going for nine days is Greensburg Craft Beer Week, which includes events around Westmoreland County. One, at Fury Brewing in North Huntingdon Friday, is a Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robots Tournament. On Sept. 27, there’s a Habitat for Humanity Oktoberfest with Noble Stein Brewing at Oliver’s Pourhouse. And on Sept. 29, its All Saints Brewing’s Oktoberfest party. Get the full schedule and details at https://greensburgcraftbeerweek.com.
Oct. 14 brings the fifth-annual Smoketoberfest of Roundabout Brewery, which moves the fall fun to its popup location on the Ohio River in the North Side neighborhood of Chateau from 3 to 7 p.m. that Sunday. Smoked beers, smoked food and live music for $32.19: www.eventbrite.com/e/smoketoberfest-v-tickets-49908670176#tickets.
