The Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, which recently launched its 106th Annual Exhibition at the SouthSide Works, is opening two exhibitions this week — in Lawrenceville and Foxburg, Clarion County.

A reception for “The End” will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at FrameHouse & Jask Gallery, 100 43rd St., Lawrenceville.

The exhibition comprises works by 15 artists that address themes such as loss, fear, mortality, mourning and the unknown. Subjects range from Kathleen Kase Burk’s pencil drawing “In Memoriam,” a portrait of her parents based upon objects found in their home after their deaths; to Aaron Regal’s photo essay “Clearance: Documenting Gentrification in Pittsburgh’s East End.”

“‘The End’ is not necessarily a bleak or depressing show,” said Fred Blauth, who curated the exhibition. He is affiliated with Bunker Projects, a Pittsburgh artist-run nonprofit residency and experimental gallery. “From coming to terms with change to looking death in the eye, ‘The End’ is about the inevitable and how we choose to react to it.”

A reception for “OBJECT/ OGGETTO” will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Red Brick Gallery, 17 Main St., Foxburg (16036). The Clarion County borough site, about 70 miles north of Pittsburgh, serves the AAP ambition to expand its geographic presence.

“The majority of our exhibitions at AAP occur within greater Pittsburgh, but we are a larger regional institution and our members come from across the state, over into Ohio, and down into West Virginia,” said executive director Madeline Gent.

The gallery, in the oldest home in Foxburg, is part of the Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts, a volunteer-run artist cooperative. AAP will provide an exhibition of work atypical of the usual shown at the gallery, Ms. Gent said.

“My hope is to do more like this in the future, really get AAP out and about. To not do that is to ignore our [widespread] membership and audience as well,” she said.
