Council to vote on UPMC expansion in Monroeville

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - - Local News -

Monroeville Council will vote Tuesday on whether to approve a plan to expand the emergency department at UPMC East in Monroeville by nearly 30,000 square feet.

During council’s agendasetting meeting Thursday, landscape architect Jon Sweringen showed members a drawing of the proposal.

He said the 29,751-squarefoot addition, which would be built on current parking spaces, would not quite double the size of the emergency department.

Mr. Sweringen said there has been “a significant need” to expand the department.

The Monroeville Planning Commission has recommended that council approve the proposal.
