Cardinals ease past Tar Heels

Home loss is worst of Williams’ career

Louisville routed No. 12ranked North Carolina Saturday, 83-62, the worst home loss in Roy Williams’ tenure.

“I’m at a little bit of a loss,” coach Williams said.

Leading scorers Cam Johnson, Coby White and Luke Maye had 23 points in their first ACC loss this season. Maye scored nine, Johnson had 10 and White had four as the Tar Heels (12-4, 21 ACC) shot 34.5 percent.

In the second half, Williams took a knee after talking with his team. He said he got dizzy and has collapsed in games before due to vertigo. He finished the contest.

Duke

With Zion Williamson out, Cam Reddish scored 23 points for No. 1 Duke in an 80-78 victory against No. 13 Florida State. Reddish hadn’t scored more than 10 in six games but hit a 3pointer to give the Blue Devils (14-1, 3-0 ACC) a ninth consecutiv­e win. RJ Barrett added 32 points and Mfioneu Kabengele had 24 for the Seminoles (13-3, 1-2).

Texas Tech

Matt Mooney scored 22 points as the No. 8 Red Raiders beat Texas, 68-62, for their first win in Austin since 1996. The Red Raiders (15-1, 4-0 Big 12) are the only unbeaten team in Big 12 competitio­n.

Mississipp­i State

Blake Hinson scored a career-high 26 points for Mississipp­i in a 81-77 road win over No. 14 Mississipp­i State. Mississipp­i (13-2, 3-0 SEC) won its 10th in a row under first-year coach Kermit Davis.

Ohio State

Iowa beat No. 16 Ohio State, 72-62, the Buckeyes’ third loss in a row and a big win for Iowa (14-3, 3-3 Big Ten). C.J. Jackson, secondlead­ing scorer for the Buckeyes (12-4, 2-3), missed his first start of the season. He had 10 points before fouling out. Ohio State had a seasonhigh 21 turnovers.

Baylor

Tristan Clark, Division I’s best shooter at 74 percent, will miss the rest of the season after surgery on his knee. He was 84 of 114 in 14 games, on pace to be the fourth-best shooting season in NCAA history.

Akron

Center Khadim Gueye pleaded not guilty to a charge of misdemeano­r assault for allegedly knocking out a teammate Dec. 16 at practice in an unprovoked attack. Akron suspended Gueye, who is sitting out this season after transferri­ng from South Carolina. The victim, Mark Kostelac, missed two games but returned in December.
