Ravens pick Roman to lead offense

-

Greg Roman was promoted to Ravens offensive coordinator, marking the end of Marty Mornhinweg’s tenure on the staff as the team looks to build on quarterback Lamar Jackson’s rookie season.

The move, which comes on Eric DeCosta’s first day as Ravens general manager, is expected to solidify Harbaugh’s future in Baltimore. Mornhinweg had the option of remaining on the staff but declined, coach Jim Harbaugh said.

Roman, 47, joined the Ravens in 2017 as a senior offensive assistant and tight ends coach and was promoted to assistant head coach before this past season. He was widely credited with helping to rejuvenate the Ravens running game in 2017 with running back Alex Collins and this season after Jackson took over for Joe Flacco.

Browns

Former Vikings assistant Mike Priefer will handle special teams for new Browns coach Freddie Kitchens. Priefer spent the previous eight seasons coaching special teams with the Vikings.

Broncos

Gary Kubiak won’t return to run Denver’s offense for new head coach Vic Fangio. According to a source, it became apparent that Kubiak wasn’t the right fit because of philosophical differences over scheme and staff. Kubiak had wanted to bring back some assistant coaches who have followed him throughout his coaching career along with dusting off schemes that were successful in another era but didn’t seem to fit the Broncos quest to modernize their approach.
