Butler rolls past Seneca Valley

Morton scores 25 points for the Golden Tornadoes

The first half of section play for boys basketball wrapped up Tuesday night and Butler proved its still a threat in Class 6A.

Despite an upset loss last week against Pine-Richland, the No. 5 Golden Tornadoes rolled to their second consecutiv­e Section 1 victory with an 82-67 win at Seneca Valley.

Ethan Morton, a 6-foot-6 junior guard, scored 25 points for Butler (11-3, 4-1). Mattix Clement, a sophomore, followed with 23, while Luke Patterson chipped in with 17.

Seneca Valley (7-5, 2-3), which trailed at the half, 3329, was led by Mason Bush, who led all scorers with 30 points.

Other top games

Dan Petcash tossed in 20 points to guide No. 4 Pine-Richland to its 10th victory in a row, slipping past host Central Catholic, 66-63, in Class 6A Section 1. Levi Wentz added 20 for the Rams (12-2, 5-0). Ben Sarson led all scorers with 22 for the Vikings (3-10, 14).

Canon-McMillan handed host Peters Township its second consecutiv­e loss and moved up to third place in Class 6A Section 2 after topping the Indians, 66-44. Luke Palmer scored a game-high 17 points for the Big Macs (95, 3-2). Dax Plosinka scored 13 for the Indians (9-4, 2-3).

Wes Kropps’ 22-point performanc­e helped No. 4 Penn Hills move into first place in the Class 5A Section 1 after the Indians earned a 79-57 win at home against No. 3 Woodland Hills. Tyree Spencer and Kyree Hairston-Mitchel each added 18 for Penn Hills (11-2, 6-0). Keandre Bowles dropped a gamehigh 34 points for the Wolverines (9-2, 5-1).

No. 4 Knoch used a 20-0 run at the end of the second quarter and cruised to an 82-59 Class 4A Section 1 victory against visiting Freeport. Scott Fraser scored 21 points and Jake Scheidt followed with 18 for No. 4 Knights (11-3, 5-0). Jalen Brown sank a gamehigh 22 for the Yellowjack­ets (8-4, 3-2).

Washington moved into second place in Class 3A Section 4 following a 5142 win at McGuffey. Zahmere Robinson paced the Little Prexies (6-6, 5-1) with 12 points. Nate Witkowsky led the Highlander­s (9-6, 42) with 14 points.

Bobby Clifford’s 22 points led No. 1 Allderdice to a 62-52 City League win at home against Obama Academy. The Dragons (112, 4-0) have won eight in a row. Dashaun Thomas scored a team-high 17 for the Eagles (6-5, 1-3).

Tuesday’s stars

Uniontown’s Billy Deshields turned in a 25point effort as the Class 4A No. 5 Raiders (9-3, 5-0) romped to an 81-47 victory against over Waynesburg Central (6-8, 1-4).
